Fresh from the Yard

The mower is going, the garden tools have been brought out of their winter hiding places and the sun is almost shining. For Portland this spring, that is as close as we get to good weather and the opportunity is not to be missed. I love this time of year. The colors are terrific. I am not just talking about the colors in the blooms …

…although the bulbs can be quite amazing, and the blossoms of the trees can take your breath away…

…but I am talking about the colors of the fresh shoots. Have you ever stopped to look at how incredible opening shoots can be? Get up close and really look at them. Here are a few from my front yard today that are just as wonderful as the plants are in bloom. I am forever in awe of the wonderful world of plants.

And yes, the deer have already nipped of the shoots from several of my roses!
