Live in the Bing: Lianne La Havas

Yesterday, 23 year old singer songwriter from England, Lianne La Havas, brought her soulful voice to the Bing Lounge in Portland Oregon. Little did we know beforehand what a treasure she was to give to Jesse and I, but more about that later. She already has several singles, EPs and now her first studio album – Is your love big enough which reached #4 on the UK charts. She also won the iTunes best album of the year 2012.

As is typical for musicians of her age, well for any age really, many of her songs are about relationships – those that worked and those that didn’t. This also goes along well with her singing style. In the interview she also revealed that you should never trust everything you read on the Internet as the Wikipedia page on her incorrectly says that her Mother played with Jill Scott and Mary J. Blige. This is not true. Her mother only introduced her to the music from these people.

Her upbringing has influences of England, Jamaica and Greece, which adds to the uniqueness of her musical style.

Many of her concert locals are sold out including Los Angeles, San Francisco, Seattle, Chicago, Boston, New York and many more and she has already appeared on David Letterman, Conan O‘Brian, Jay Leno  and most recently Jimmy Kimmel Live.

The final number she played came with a small introduction. She said this was a true story that it had happened to her. Jesse and I know exactly how she feels and now we have a song! Please take a listen to it – Age.
