Taking Time to Relax at Cape Lookout
It is difficult not to relax when listening to the sound of the waves rolling up the beach, Time seems to slow down a bit and you start to become a little bit more in tune with nature. You start to notice the beauty everywhere you look – not just the obvious, but the little things,
the fog making things serene and a little mysterious,
the early morning rays of the sun shining through the fog that hangs in the trees,
a squirrel having his mushrooms for breakfast (now where did he find that…).
Such was the case with a recent trip to Cape Lookout State park. When most people go to the coast here in Oregon, they head down 26 and land at Seaside. Some may venture up or down 101 to find Astoria or Canon Beach, but what about Tillamook? Tillamook – I hear you question. Yes Tillamook and from there head out along the Three Capes Drive. This is an incredible part of the Oregon coast and because it takes a few more miles to get to, it is not as littered with hordes of people. An even better idea is to camp there so that you can experience the sunset and the sunrise. If you are not into camping, they have some great cabins that come equipped with showers, bunk beds, fridge, microwave and grill. They are open all year round, so a great choice for storm watching as well. When weather permits there are some great hikes around there, including those along the beach.
